The 6th edition of the APLAR conference, dedicated to the use of laser technology in the field conservation and restoration of artworks, will be held in Florence, Italy.
Besides the combination and improvements of laser cleaning techniques, the conference aims to sustain the use of diagnostic and analytical techniques as assessment tools to corroborate the conservators work. Moreover, it will share experiences and case studies where laser technology is used with intelligence to achieve decisive results.
The collaborative work of Northumbria University with XpectralTEK LDA resulted to the paper entitled: "Er:YAG laser: testing and evaluation of laser cleaning on a varnished 20th century modern oil paint”, in which XpeCAM platform was used.
In this work a complete solution is described that quantitatively measures the cleaning process impact on twentieth and twenty-first century varnished oil paintings by means of multispectral imaging using XpeCAM X01 system, acquisition, processing and analysis software.
